3 x smart casual Christmas party outfits for men

What are you planning to wear to Christmas events this year? If you only have formal business wear and casual weekend wear, you may find you're struggling to hit that smart/casual sweet spot which is in between the two.

So perhaps I can inspire you with these 3 outfits for those Christmas occasions where you need to look dressy but not too much so, smart but not businessy, or casual but looking like you've made an effort.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like some help, please get in touch as I have a few slots left before Christmas!

This understated jacquard blazer from Slowear is just the ticket for your Christmas do's - a bit different from the average navy work blazer but not too shouty.

You could wear it with a plain white shirt but to switch things up a bit, I've added a white shirt with a grandad collar and a small print (click through to see detail). Plain black wool trousers are the more formal option, but you could also wear black or blue jeans. Finish off with midnight blue monkstraps - a different style to try if you always stick to lace-ups normally? And to enhance the contrast (which always makes something look smarter) and add a little more formality add a white pocket square with a stitched edge.

Single breasted unlined jacquard jacket with peak lapels - Montedoro at Slowear - £690

Grandad collar printed cotton seersucker shirt - Officine Generale at Mr Porter -£175

Classic black wool suit trousers - Sandro - £210

White linen pocket square with navy edging - Paolo Albizzati - £46.01

"Thomas" midnight blue cap toe leather monk strap shoes - George Cleverley at Mr Porter - £525

Get some colour in your life with this grape coloured cord suit. A step away from the usual blues and greys, it goes well with dusty pink, white, cream, pale blue, and navy blue. I also like how rich it looks with this mustard / orange toned pocket square which blends well with the tan shoes. You could give it a dressier look with a pale blue shirt, navy tie and black shoes or tone it right down with a grey marl cashmere sweater and black trainers. And as if that wasn't enough outfit ideas, you could also split it up and wear the trousers with a casual jacket or the blazer with jeans. More versatile than you might think, isn't it!?

Slim fit grape corduroy suit jacket - Hugo Boss at Mr Porter - £400

Grape slim fit tapered cotton corduroy drawstring suit trousers - Hugo Boss at Mr Porter - £180

Yellow geometric stamp print wool & silk pocket square - Drakes - £55

"Deal II R" derby in mahogany grain leather - Cheaney - £365

Sometimes you just don't need to get that dressed up, but want to wear something that feels like you've made the effort. This tartan shirt definitely gives a nod to Christmas, and the black suede bomber is a smart casual option if a blazer feels too formal. The solid black jeans are a touch more formal than regular blue denim, and finish with black lace up boots (or Chelsea boots if you prefer). As I always say to my clients "you are allowed to have more than one black scarf in your wardrobe" - so invest in a few and tone them to your outfits, like I've done with this blue and green one which echoes the colours of the shirt.

Green tartan shirt - Sandro - £155

Black slim fit jeans - Sandro - £155

Black suede zipped bomber jacket - Sandro - £685

Navy & green colour block wool scarf - PS by Paul Smith - £85

Dip dyed black leather "Jarman" boots - Paul Smith - £350
