5 of the best - Winter Coats

Now the nights are drawing in and the Christmas jingles will soon be playing in every store, my clients have been updating their wardrobes with new coats on the recent personal shopping trips I've done with them.

Of course they've all had varying briefs, so here I've put together a selection of the best coats I found to fit their criteria. I've concentrated on ones that are suitable to wear to work and fit over a suit jacket, though most of these will look great as part of a casual outfit too.

Herno detachable placket coat on Sartoria Lab blog personal styling for men

Detachable placket single breasted wool blend coat - Herno at Matches - £645

In water-resistant, breathable, and wind-proof fabric this could just be your perfect winter coat. Sleek enough to wear over a suit, practical enough to face the worst the winter can throw at you, it's a great all rounder. With it's detachable front placket for extra warmth, you'll be snug and cosy against the elements but ready to zip it off in a jiffy should the tube get tropical on your commute home.

Private White VC Manchester peacoat on Sartoria Lab blog personal shopping for men

Manchester shearling collar wool peacoat - Private White VC - £795

Oh how I do love a peacoat. It traverses the divide between smart and casual with ease and this one gets extra brownie points for being just long enough (32") to wear over a suit jacket. With its luxurious shearling collar to shield you from inclement weather, this is likely to become a constant companion this winter.

Sandro camel 3 button coat on Sartoria Lab blog style advice for men

Camel long coat fastened with 3 buttons - Sandro £475

Camel a new colour for you? Then keep the style simple. Sandro has been one of my favourite brands to buy with clients recently for it's modern shapes and clean lines. If you fancy breaking away from black or navy outerwear this winter then this may prove to be the runaway success your coat wardrobe is looking for.

J. Lindeberg Kaleb 76 Rips black coat on Sartoria Lab blog fashion tips for men

Kaleb 76 Rips Memo black coat - J Lindeberg at Harvey Nichols £365

If you're not keen on classic trenches or macs, and your hiking jacket is practical but just doesn't cut enough dash for the city, then here is your answer.  A hybrid of a coat & raincoat with a padded lining and a concealed hood, this stylish piece is a win-win choice.

Eidos herringbone wool coat on Sartoria Lab blog personal shopping for men

Herringbone wool blend coat - Eidos at Mr Porter £755

When pattern is preferable but plaid's too mad, then a gentle herringbone will do the trick. This coat will slide easily into a smart casual 9-5 wardrobe, plus layered over a denim jacket or hoody it'll become a weekend staple too.

And if you'd like to look for a new winter coat and be saying the same as one of last week's clients: "It was an excellent day, thank you" then contact me to book in for a Personal Shopping trip.
