Autumn jacket ideas for men

And just like that, it became Autumn. Seemed very sudden this year didn't it? After our hot spell, the minute September hit, the chill crept in.

If you're making do with some raggedy looking outerwear, then let's get you sorted with a transitional jacket before winter sets in good and proper. Here's my selection:

PS by Paul Smith cropped top stitch jacket - personal shopping ideas for men

This immediately went on my list during my pre-shop for a client last week......it even got a star next to it, it was that good! Even though it wasn't for him in the end, as he preferred the Percival one below, it'll definitely be making it onto the list for other clients. It ticks all the boxes for me......it's a great weight for that in-between weather, it's classic navy but the white top stitching gives it a little point of difference, and it's super easy to combine with other things in your wardrobe. It's just waiting for the right client now - could it be you?!?

Sir Plus navy and brown checked wool overshirt - personal styling for men

Having introduced a client to over-shirts last season with great success, he was keen to get some more. This navy and brown check one did the trick, and here are the reasons we loved it: (1) It breaks up all the navy that, if you're like most men, you'll probably have in your wardrobe (2) It's very versatile - you can wear it over a t-shirt now and when it gets colder put a sweater or hoody under it (more tips on how to style an over-shirt here) (3) It's perfect for the next few months - when you don't need a coat but an extra layer comes in handy (4) It looks cool!

Percival waterproof workshirt London - personal stylist for men

Percival did a great job with the window dressing in their Soho store......my client and I spotted an orange jacket in their window, which we went in and bought, then no sooner had we left, we spied this one in the other window and went straight back in to get it! We were debating whether it should take the place of a similar but cheaper over-shirt we'd already bought......it won out in the end because of it's lovely contrast buttons, shorter lenghth and the fact it's more of a jacket, than a shirt. We also discovered later that it's waterproof too, so definitely the right decision.....yay!

Wax London Whiting overshirt - men's personal shopper

Wax London is a brand I introduced a personal shopping customer to last year, which is going from strength to strength (now available in Liberty too). This is their signature style which is in recycled cotton and they do it in various different checks. I think the tan and navy work brilliantly together, and you could pick out any of the other colours to wear it with too. Try it with a red jumper and dark blue jeans, a chocolate brown sweater and grey jeans, or a navy hoody and ecru cords. Even though initially it looks quite bright, I think it'd turn out to be a lot more versatile than you'd imagine.

Universal Works fleece lined cotton twill jacket - personal shopper for men

Looking for a more wintery version of your bomber jacket? Look no further.....Universal Works have done this style for some time now, which is based on an N-1 jacket that the deck crew onboard aircraft carriers wore during World War II. The short, boxy fit is perfect with the wider leg trousers that are coming back into style and if you're a shorter, slim guy it'll bulk you out a bit too. You can style it with jeans or slightly smarter trousers as they have done above - you just can't go far wrong with a navy jacket in your wardrobe can you?!

If you hate shopping or always come back from a shopping trip with the same tried and tested pieces which you're bored to death of but don't know what else to get, then give me a call to discuss how a personal shopping trip works or book in by clicking the button below:

"Sarah was well prepared and had researched well before we met. She had a plan right from the start and was full of enthusiasm and ideas for the next 6 hours! We worked through her list and had found all that we had set out for by the end of the day. Her confidence and rapport with the sales staff eased all the usual tension from the clothes shopping experience and all I had to do was try on clothes. Sarah even managed to secure a couple of discounts for me.

The day after the shop, Sarah sent me a comprehensive document listing the various 'outfits' suggesting the various sensible combinations from the items I had bought. The number of different combinations testament to the thought and care taken when selecting individual items to ensure a cohesive and flexible wardrobe.

Thoroughly recommended."
