Bonfire night and beyond - fiery knits

It's nearly fireworks night and whether you'll be going to a display or not, I've picked out some fiery coloured knits which would form the basis of a casual outfit for bonfire night and beyond.

Orange doesn't suit everyone so pick your tone carefully. I recently did a Colour Consultation for David over at Grey Fox and much as he loves orange (see his blog) I told him he shouldn't wear it and looks better in pink tones - oops! Never fear though, we managed to rescue the very nice orange sweater that he'd newly acquired in his wardrobe, by coming to a compromise and agreeing that he should wear it with blues underneath and on top, and we even tried it with a pale pink shirt too, which looked surprisingly good.

So you see, there are ways of adapting the trends to suit you, so why not get into the spirit of things, and add some of these fiery tones to light up the greys, blacks, navys and browns in your wardrobe?

I love the geometric weave of this flame coloured Oliver Spencer sweater. A soft brown jacket works well over the top - this one's from Peregrine - and the Missoni stripe scarf brings the colours together. The chunky YMC boots with the Universal Works socks will make sure you stay warm and dry long after the "oohing and aaahing" over the fireworks has subsided.

This Carven knit will certainly add a sparkle to your winter wardrobe. It looks coolly casual when worn with jeans, a tan leather belt and sturdy A.P.C. boots. Finish off with some Universal Works leather trimmed gloves to get your outfit crackling with style.

Polo Ralph Lauren have come up with a firecracker of a sweater with this shawl collared, cable knit one. Wear with Band of Outsiders cords to keep it looking casual and understated, and with these Penfield colour block glovesFolk socks  and Universal Works bobble hat you'll keep warm and toasty even if you're nowhere near a bonfire.

Give yourself a warm glow with this Journal sweater combined with the Paul Smith duck down jacket. Sturdy cotton twill chinos from Edwin and rubber soled chunky Grenson brogues keep it grounded, and add a flash of "flare" with Norse Projects fairisle scarf.
