Brown suede shoes for every occasion
I've been thinking about dark brown brogues and Derbies recently whilst with clients, as the perfect thing to go with summer suits.
I find that suede looks more summery than leather, and the dark brown goes better with navy than tan which can be too light and too much of a contrast with dark trousers.
If you buy them to go with a suit, they can also been worn easily with jeans or chinos in varying shades. Here's some of the ones I've chosen with different clients for various outfits & occasions:
One client was attending a wedding and needed some shoes to go with the navy hopsack suit we'd bought on our shopping trip. He was wearing it with a white shirt and pale yellow tie, but as he rarely wears suits, he wanted something he could wear afterwards too. I particularly liked these because of the lighter contrast sole which makes them more casual, so they could also go with the beige chinos, mid grey trousers and blue/grey check trousers he'd also bought for his smart/casual work wardrobe.
"Stogumber" brown suede brogues - Oliver Sweeney - £229 - £179
Slightly more formal for the more classic dresser, these ones are a great all rounder. They'd go with a summer suit in navy or grey, with tan/grey/navy chinos for work and also for weekends with jeans - dark indigo or a more washed in blue. If you're worried about wearing suede, just make sure you spray them with a protector first and give them a regular brush and they'll be fine.
"Southport" rubber sole brogues - Russell & Bromley - £195
For a client who normally wears trainers with casual summer suits, I thought these ones would be perfect. He has one suit in a pale blue and white seersucker and one in an unstructured indigo linen/cotton mix. As comfy as trainers but with a little more dressiness, he can also wear them with the various lightweight chinos he has from pale grey to navy.
"Passport" brown suede Derby lace up - Russell & Bromley - £195
If you're not quite sure if brogues are for you and want to try them without spending too much, then these are the ones for you. You could wear them for work with chinos and a blazer, for casual with blue denim jeans and bomber jacket, or more dressed up with tobacco linen suit.
Suede Derby brogues - Jones Bootmaker - £85
I bought some very similar ones to this last year when I took a client shopping for a wedding he was attending. He had a pale air-force blue silk and wool mix suit, a light blue shirt and yellow tie (click link to see the outfit). The dark brown derbies were formal enough to go with the suit and the colour was a chic alternative to tan.
"Coventry" suede Derby shoes - Hugo Boss at Mr Porter - £250
