Capsule wardrobe for dating

As February is the "month of love", I decided to compile a Capsule Wardrobe for Dating. After I shop with a client, I often put together a list of outfits for them so they can remember what I suggested whilst shopping, and get maximum use out of the items they bought, mixing and matching the pieces to create outfits for all occasions.

I thought it would be useful to do this for a "dating wardrobe" as it's important to look good for your date, and it helps give you the confidence you need too. So, over the next 2 weeks in the run up to Valentine's Day, I'll be posting the outfits I made up from the pieces below. There's 20 outfits in all, ranging from Casual to Smart with more emphasis on the outfits in between as this is what I find most men struggle with.

Here are the pieces I used to make up the outfits. I'll be adding in lots more accessories to complete the looks as I post them up. Click on each image to take you to the relevant website to shop the garment.

Jackets

Valentino peacoat - Browns - capsule wardrobe for dating Rag & bone blazer - what to wear for dating - personal shopping/styling for men

A peacoat looks relaxed enough to wear with jeans but dressy enough to wear with tailored trousers, so it earns it's keep in versatility. Choose one in a lighter fabric to see you through to Spring. I opted for this grey blazer as being unstructured and unlined, it's softly tailored for weekends, but still gives a refined nod when needed for a more sophisticated situation.

Trousers

Dark indigo jeans give a clean and modern vibe but are classic enough for all ages. Go for slimmer cut with rolled hems if you want a younger statement, or choose straight leg for a polished, grown up feel. These navy trousers are a cotton blend which means they bridge the gap between formal and casual making them infinitely adaptable.

Shirts

Burberry Prorsum shirt - what to wear for dating - personal shopping/styling men

I've chosen three shirts which I like to think of as contemporary classics. All have subtle patterns and a slimmer fit which avoids them looking too businesslike, but keeps them looking stylish and elegant. Choose your fit according to your body shape, but generally a semi fitted look is flattering on most men.

Knitwear

I've mainly chosen finer knits for this section, other than the Folk pink cotton sweater. This still has an elegance about it though, enabling it to be mixed in at the smarter end of the spectrum as well as with jeans. Fine knits are always a handy addition to your wardrobe to be layered over t-shirts, shirts and under blazers, and wrapped up with scarves or layered if extra cold.

T-shirt

I've just included one t-shirt here to assist with some layering. Choose fitted, finished styles for a sleeker look.

Shoes

These 3 pairs of shoes and boots seem to blend effortlessly with the trousers I've chosen and will take you to wide range of destinations effortlessly and stylishly.
