Casual lightweight jackets for Spring Summer 2022
'Summer' and 'jacket' may be words that shouldn't really go together, but if you live in the UK, you'll know that a lightweight summer jacket is a useful thing to have in your wardrobe for those nippy mornings and chillier evenings.
This tends to be an area that's overlooked in lots of guys wardrobes, but once they've bought one on a shopping trip with me, they've found them really useful.
So here are my picks of the ones I've sussed out as potential options for upcoming clients.
In a bid to get away from the all-over-navy look which is common place in a lot of client's wardrobes, I've got my beady eye on this to add a bit of contrast to the blues. It'll work really well if you want to stick to a simple navy t-shirt and dark jeans for a clean and simple look, or add in some rusts and olives to switch things up a bit.
And don't worry, with the ecru colour (rather than white) and herringbone texture, you're not going to look like the milkman!
Illframcombe jacket in Hepworth ecru - Oliver Spencer - £349
Call it what you will - an overshirt / chore / utility / workwear jacket, this is a very useful item. Throw it over a t-shirt, a casual shirt, a hoody, or a lightweight sweater.....just having that light extra layer is perfect for our climate.
Wear it to work with a white button down shirt, navy chinos and plain leather trainers, and then for weekends with a striped t-shirt, light coloured jeans and chunkier trainers.
Cotton canvas utility jacket - Arket - £69
If you're just starting out and building a capsule wardrobe of items that all go together, or if you just prefer a minimal colour palette, then check out this NNO7 lightweight bomber. I buy this brand a lot with clients as it's one that seems to suit everyone.
See how they've styled it on Mr Porter for a perfect, simple but modern look that will easily take you from office to bar.
Black Pires shell bomber jacket - NN07 at Mr Porter - £190
I recently spotted this in Liberty and it's excellently soft and lightweight, and has that ready worn in look to it, that makes it feel like it's yours before you've even got it home. And I have in mind just the person who I think will love it when I show it to him on our upcoming shopping trip!
If you're like him and prefer a more casual "undone" look, then give it a try. Khaki blends easily with loads of other colours and the military style is often suited to taller guys who find bomber styles too short.
Khaki crew field jacket - Woolrich at Liberty - £335
Take a break from your blues and blacks with this brick colour. I know exactly which client this will be perfect for, and if you too prefer your colours muted and your fabrics matt with a bit of texture, then this is the jacket for you. (And if you have no clue, then book in for a Colour & Style Consultation where we'll find out what's best suited to you!)
Go for a smarter look with beige linen trousers and suede boots, or keep it casual with a striped tee and Converse....click through to see the look.
Brick textured cotton and linen blend bomber jacket - Mr P at Mr Porter - £325
