Casual coloured shirts for men - Spring 2023

Do you want to bring a bit more colour in your wardrobe now Spring is in the air? Are you over the dark blues, blacks and greys and looking to freshen things up as the days get lighter? (Clocks go forward this weekend - woohoo!)

The easiest way to add a quick shot of colour to your wardrobe is with a shirt. Casual shirts like these are super simple to layer over t-shirts with your regular jeans and trainers. Just pick a colour that looks good on you, and keep the other colours you wear neutral, and you can't go far wrong.

So let's get started......

Portugese flannel yellow shirt - personal styling for men

What could be better for Spring - a cosy flannel shirt to ward off those lurking winds, in a daffodil yellow. Wear it over a simple white t-shirt or a stripe as worn here, and if you need another layer on top, then just add a denim jacket, and maybe even a gilet and scarf if it's still a bit nippy.

It won't look out of place in summer too though, as you can wear it more like a jacket - just roll the sleeves a bit and it'll come in handy in the evenings with shorts and a t-shirt. Then next Autumn you can always wear it under a chunky shawl collared cardigan to add a bit of colour too....you see, more versatile than you thought eh?

Club Monaco waffle knit green shirt - personal shopping for men

I love this beautiful green and if you're a bit scared of colour but want a change from blues, greys and blacks, then this one's for you. It'll go brilliantly with all those colours though, so you can incorporate it immediately into your rotation of outfits.

It's in a lovely waffle texture, and I really like how they've styled it here. The white t-shirt freshens is up for Spring and goes with the white buttons, and details on the trainers. And I like the addition of the lighter coloured socks too.....white or light socks are very trendy if that's your jam! You could also wear it with lighter blue jeans, off-white jeans or even black shorts when it's warm enough.

Colourful Standard pearly purple shirt - personal stylist for men

I've just found out about the exact colour of this shirt, "mauve", in a book I'm reading on colour. Apparently it was discovered by a young scientist (and wannabe artist) in the 1850s whilst trying to produce a cheaper version of quinine, which was a cure for malaria. He never did manage to produce that, but luckily for us he found out how to produce this beautiful colour instead.

It won't suit everyone but if you have a cooler skin tone, it's likely to look good on you. It's the perfect thing to zhuzh up navy, black or charcoal and I also really like it with chocolate brown too. Plus if you happen to have any dark purple/aubergine knits in your wardrobe, then that would be a fabulous combination, as it's the same colour in different shades.

Folk baby cord lime green shirt - personal shopper for men

On the other hand, if you have warmer colouring eg: a golden skin tone or tinges of red in your hair, then this colour will look great on you (I think the model would look better in the mauve!) The shirt is made from baby cord, which we usually think of as a winter fabric but the colour says otherwise, so go ahead and wear it year round.

I love the combo they've put together here, or reverse the colours and put it with a white t-shirt (or cream looks even better on people with warm colouring) and navy trousers / jeans too. Unless you've very brave and confident at mixing colours, I'd keep the rest of your outfit neutral and let the lime green do all the talking.

But if you're just not feeling it with the more adventurous colours above and would rather stick to a slightly "safer' colour - then a mulberry / wine / burgundy colour is a great all rounder......it looks good on lots of people and is an easy one to incorporate into your wardrobe.

This one's also in cord, and if you combine it with lighter colours - a white t-shirt under, beige chinos, lighter denim then it won't look too wintery.......just don't double up with cord jeans! It also looks great with olive and if you are feeling more adventurous, a light dusky pink t-shirt would look good under it.

And here's what one lovely client said after his Colour & Style Consultation, Wardrobe Edit & Personal Shopping trip for men:

'Sarah was absolutely fantastic. Her professionalism was exceptional. The wardrobe edit was a much needed cull! But it also gave me the confidence to reconsider neglected items.

I was so impressed by our shopping day together. Sarah had spent a lot of time checking out the shops the day before which saved a lot of time and work. In many ways I think it actually saved me money because Sarah gave me the confidence to buy items which were not always that expensive but looked very good on me.

Sarah also kept on reminding me that I should not only get things I liked but items that I needed. This is a very helpful mindset for me. Sarah also encouraged me towards colours that I wouldn't typically have the courage to wear. The clothes we got are still very much me but just an improved version of myself. I am very happy.'
