Cosy men’s shirts to keep you warm in winter 2024

Shirt shopping with clients is something I’ve been doing recently - not for formal shirts but casual ones, and we’ve found ourselves leaning towards these cosy winter styles in flannel, brushed cotton and cord.

I find lots of guys get too hot in knitwear so these are great to have - warmer than a regular cotton shirt but not as hot as a sweater. Or if you get really cold, you could also layer them with jumpers too.

Here are some my client bought on his shopping trip last week:

This is a dark blue with a bit of a flecked textured to it, and is lovely and soft to wear. It comes up on the large side, so if you’re buying online, I’d suggest ordering your normal size and one smaller.

It’ll look great with jeans (as you can see above), and a darker shirt also works well with lighter coloured trousers ….if you have a pair you’re finding you don’t get much use from as all your shirts are light colours, then give it a try.

The over-shirt is the shirt that just keeps on giving! And it’s with good reason that it’s still going strong in the world of menswear……it’s so versatile and practical and looks great too.

I kept it simple when I styled this for my client, and put it with a white t-shirt and jeans. I gave him the option of wearing it with some tan trousers too though…..he told me he’s not been wearing them much, and I’m hoping this will give them a new lease of life.

Of course the stone colour will look great with navy chinos, plus chocolate brown is a popular colour this winter, which would also tone really well.

If you don’t know Luca Faloni yet, then check them out. This shirt is one of their classic styles which they do in lots of different colours and fabrics. It comes in a slim fit and a regular fit (which is still quite fitted) and has a very elegant collar which sits really well.

This one is in a cosy brushed cotton, and we chose this colour to go with a tweedy check chore jacket that my client bought earlier this year. The colour looks great on him……and it makes a nice change from blue!

If I remember correctly, we sized up on this one.

I always like that Paul Smith pays great attention to detail….on this shirt it’s the different coloured top button. A small but effective feature. It’s got a nice neat button down collar and you could wear it with jeans or cargo pants at weekends or put it under a casual suit to dress it down.

They’ve called this colour forest green but I’d describe it as more of a deep olive. Whatever it’s called, it’s a lovely colour for Autumn Winter, and looks great with navy, grey, off white, black and denim (though I’m not sure I’m a fan of the tan trousers they’ve put it with??)

And last but not least, a default pale blue shirt…..but with a difference…..it’s needlecord. That makes it casual but really easy to wear as it’s one of those colours that goes with everything.

As it’s a fine cord, you don’t need to wear anything under it as it’s not like the over-shirt above. If you did want to layer a t-shirt under it though for an extra bit of warmth, you could go for white, or navy and white stripes, or one in the same shade of blue.

If you’re bored with going on shopping trips and coming home with the same old things, or even worse….nothing, then book in a Personal Shopping trip for Men with me! I’ll introduce you to new shops, different items and show you how to wear everything and put it all together.

You outsource other things to people who can make it easier for you….why not do the same with shopping for clothes?! I’ll massively speed things up for you and you’ll go home with a new refreshed wardrobe for Autumn Winter 2024.

Sarah helped me look beyond my usual buys, and together we explored different things.

I would never have known where to go without her, and would simply be overwhelmed and give up, or just end up buying more of what I already have.
