Instantly update your Spring wardrobe.........do this one thing

At last Spring has sprung in the UK.....for the next couple of days anyway, until it gets colder again next week. But no matter, it's a good time to start planning ahead and thinking about your wardrobe for the warmer days.

If you don't know where to start though and feel overwhelmed by shopping for a whole new wardrobe, then do this one thing.......buy some lighter coloured trousers for Spring. And here's why:

1. They'll instantly makes things look more summery and fresh.
2. They open up new outfit options......those darker tops you have that don't quite go with your jeans.....they'll look great with more of a contrast
3. They alleviate the boredom of wearing blue jeans or navy chinos constantly. The colour change will immediately refresh your wardrobe without too much effort.

Slowear tan lightweight tech trousers - personal stylist and personal shopper for men

I got these trousers on a shopping trip with a client last week, who was going on holiday. They’re super lightweight, so perfect for that but no need to wait till you go on your hols though - wear them now with a lightweight navy knit and blazer for work, or a grey marl sweatshirt and denim chore jacket for the weekends.

Slim fit "Tekno Gab" trousers - Slowear - £300

Drakes ecru jeans - personal styling shopping for men

These are another pair I bought with a client (he got them in cord) about a year ago. When I was putting together outfits for him after our shopping trip, they went with practically everything else he’d bought! The style is good if you’re a bit chunkier in the thigh or want to move away from a slim style without going too voluminous. Wear them with a sweatshirt and check chore jacket like I’ve shown here, and when the weather gets warmer, switch to a t-shirt or short sleeved camp collar shirt for those long summer evenings.

Ecru selvedge denim five pocket jeans - Drake's - £275

Marco checked corduroy jacket - A.P.C. at Liberty - £325

Powder blue sweatshirt - Colourful Standard - £50

Rubinacci Manny trousers - personal styling tips for men

Recently I did an online wardrobe edit with a client who had lots of these fabulous Gurkha style trousers in his wardrobe. If you like an elegant look (and are not a fan of belts) then give them a try. The high waisted style is flattering if you have shorter legs, and reminiscent of the 1950s look, so go really well with a knitted polo like this one from Arket. Tuck it in to show off the unusual waistband, and if you want to know more about the Gurkha style then watch this brilliant, hilarious video!

Beige "Manny" pleated cotton trousers - Rubinacci at The Rake - £360

Off white cotton linen polo shirt - Arket - £45

Dark brown suede "Cavendish" loafers - Crockett & Jones - £470

Orlebar Brown cream chinos - personal shopping ideas for men

Bright white trousers can be a bit scary for most men, and though you might love them in the shop, they end up going unworn. Instead go for a more subtle almond colour like these Orlebar Brown ones. Sporting the same side fastening as they use on their swim shorts, they’re a neat slim style which can slot into your wardrobe straight away. Wear them with this gorgeous Dior bomber, which I spotted in Selfridges whilst prepping for a client the other day. It’s the sort of thing I can never find when I’m looking for it, so although it was off brief for what we were looking for, I bookmarked it for future clients and also thought it went fabulously with this combo too!

"Campbell" almond slim fit chinos - Orlebar Brown - £185

Zipped technical cotton ripstop blouson jacket - Dior - £1,550

Suede and mesh trainers - New Balance at Mr Porter - £200

NN07 tan chinos - London personal stylist for men

Norse Projects is one of my favourite brands which I often buy with clients. They do a range of easy to wear basics, that are fail safe pieces which seem to work on everyone. Wear these tan chinos now with an unstructured navy blazer, white grandad collar shirt, and trainers for a modern office look or style them as they have here when we get into summer BBQ weather.

"Aros" slim stretch trousers - Norse Projects at Liberty - £200

"Sarah had spent a lot of time checking out the shops the day before our shopping trip, which saved a lot of time and work. In many ways I think it actually saved me money because Sarah gave me the confidence to buy items which were not always that expensive but looked very good on me. Sarah also kept on reminding me that I should not only get things I liked but items that I needed. This is a very helpful mindset for me. Sarah also encouraged me towards colours that I wouldn't typically have the courage to ware. The clothes we got are still very much me but just an improved version of myself. I am very happy."
