John Lewis & Co Donegal Tweed suit

Recently I was kindly sent some vouchers by John Lewis so I could purchase one of their Donegal tweed suits. I decided to enlist in the help of my friend over at Grey Fox blog  - David Evans to try it out and model it for me.

He arrived for our shoot looking very dapper indeed. I was rather impressed with the way he styled it (.....and he didn't even need my help!?) with a cream waistcoat, striped shirt, green tie to match the lining, tan brogues and red patterned pocket square. Oh and not forgetting the orange socks. It doesn't sound like it should work as I write it here, but as you can see from the images it does.

The suit is quite structured with roped shoulders, a slim fit and patch pockets. It has side vents, and, rather impressively, working buttons on the cuffs. The trousers have a pleat front and slim fit, and it also has a matching waistcoat if you'd like to wear it as a 3 piece......handy for the colder months.

I think this suit can be worn by older or younger men and look equally good, and there are many ways in which you could wear it: Team the waistcoat and jacket with a pair of jeans, bright socks and chunky brogues, or channel the 1920's style of Boardwalk Empire and wear it with a contrast collar shirt with collar bar and a pair of co-respondent shoes. Altenatively it would look great styled with a pale blue shirt, a beautiful silk tie, and gold toned cufflinks for a winter wedding - see my moodboard (4th pic down) for a similar look, or you could wear the trousers paired with a chunky knit sweater and suede Chukka boots for a more casual take.

All in all, John Lewis have come up with a great suit here for an unbelievable price  - £160 for the jacket, £90 for the trousers, and £100 for the waistcoat. It's sold very well, so buy immediately if you see your size as it's been in and out of stock!

Special thanks to photographer Helen Jermyn for providing these stunning shots of Autumn leaves. One of Helen's specialities is photographing plants and gardens so if you need any shots of a botanical nature, then do get in touch.

And thanks to David from Grey Fox for modelling the suit for me and you can see his take on it here.
