Men's classic peacoats for 2023
One of those classic pieces to have in your wardrobe - a peacoat covers all situations - wear it during the week for work with tailored trousers, a smart shirt and brogues or wear it casually at weekends with a chunky knit, jeans and boots. Plus it also works for those smart casual in between sort of looks too - chinos or cords and an Oxford shirt with a fine knit sweater or cardigan.
If you're looking to begin building a capsule wardrobe of classics, then this is a great way to start. It was one of the things I was looking for on my last personal shopping trip before Christmas, and here's a selection of the possibilities I found to show my client, including the one he bought.
This was the winner in our search, which he snapped up on our shopping trip. We liked it because it's wool with a bit of cashmere making it luxurious but hardwearing. It was a very flattering shape, and has a storm flap to button up when it gets really cold.......and my favourite part? The burnt orange colour on the underside of the collar which shows when you pop it up.
Navy wool cashmere peacoat - Paul Smith - £475
With a detachable sheepskin collar, you can switch up the look of this one depending on your mood. There's two choices....the one shown above which is black with a black collar or a navy one with a contrasting cream collar. Sandro tends to come up on the smaller side, so if you find lots of coats overwhelm you, then have a look at this one. It's just gone down in price again too, so you're getting a real bargain!
Black pea coat with sheepskin collar - Sandro - Down from £589 to £353.40
This was the first one we tried on during our personal shopping trip and a strong contender. If you like plenty of pockets this one has two sets......vertical slit pockets to keep your hands warm, and lower pockets to carry your "stuff". Made of pure wool, it's quite thick and heavy, so it'll be great on colder days or if you like to wear thin layers underneath.
Navy wool peacoat - Charles Tyrwhitt - £279.95
Looking for something a bit alternative, with more of a fashion take to it? Then check this one out by Slowear. It has a boiled wool texture and jersey lining and is finished with gold buttons to add a nod to the traditional naval style. It's not everyone's cup of tea but if you like a twist on your classics then this one could be for you.
Melton wool peacoat - Montedoro by Slowear - £935
Back to pure classics with this one which has useful inside pockets, a storm flap, and half belt detail at the back. I believe this one comes up a bit longer (unfortunately their London shop has closed, so we weren't able to go in and try it) but check the size guide to be sure. If you prefer your clothes to be made close to home then you'll be pleased to hear this is made in the UK in their Manchester factory.
Navy peacoat - Private White VC - £750
Are you struggling to know what to buy and where to start upgrading your wardrobe? Or maybe you just don't have time to research the options and think about what to buy and how to put it all together? Why not outsource it this year and let me do the hard work for you and narrow down the selection? I'll show you an edited selection of products to choose from and advise on which looks best and how to wear it during our shopping session - and if you need to figure out what to buy first, then we can also book in a wardrobe edit to go through what you have and what's missing.
