Short sleeved Cuban collar shirts
If now's not the time to get yourself a fun printed shirt, then when is? It's the beginning of July, we're heading for all restrictions to be lifted (fingers crossed) and the football is on!
Surely that has to signify it's time to have some fun with your wardrobe and break out of your comfort zone? And here I am giving you a helping hand with some suggestions of things I've seen or bought with clients and how to wear them. If you've never worn anything like this before, I challenge you to try one! Let me know how you get on!
Soft muted colours and a floral print are just made for summer. I've been eyeing up this shirt, though I haven't yet found the right client to buy it with (could it be you?!) If you're not sure about wearing florals, I think this would be a good place to start with the ecru mixed with the softness of the other colours and touch of grey, making it easy to wear and not too "shouty". Combine with grey, black or blue denim and wear it open with a white t-shirt underneath.
'Wailea' patterned short sleeved shirt in ecru - All Saints - £89
A client picked this out himself, much to my surprise as the rest of the things we bought were very understated. An ideal holiday shirt (if you're lucky enough to be going abroad, or perhaps to bring a dash of sunshine to the UK?!) it's cut in a loose boxy fit with quite wide, longer short sleeves. He decided it'd be perfect to pop on with some swim shorts when going for lunch. Alternatively wear over a white tee with jeans and trainers for a BBQ ready look.
Yellow and white printed shirt - Sandro - £189 down to £113.40
A lot of these style shirts are cut in a boxy fit, but if you prefer something a little slimmer, then check this one out. It looked great on my client, even though he said it was completely different to what he'd normally wear. Try it with grey slim fit chinos, washed in black jeans or off white cords for a fun and summery look with a tiny bit of a rock'n'roll edge.....tattoos optional :-)
'Gigi' black printed cuban collar shirt - Reiss - £95 down to £75
The sales assistant assured me this shirt looked great on everyone that tried it, and even though I took it up to the private shopping suite I'd booked for a customer in Harvey Nichols, I still nearly dismissed it without getting him to try it on, as I wasn't convinced.
But guess what....she was right, and he and I were both very pleasantly surprised as to how good it looked once he finally tried it! And it was easy to combine too.....as well as the jeans we'd got, it went really well with these khaki chinos, and also this burgundy t-shirt looked good under it too. Sold!
Yellow floral print cotton shirt - PS by Paul Smith at Harvey Nichols - £135
Absolutely Bear, a sustainable t-shirt brand, asked me to do some styling for them using one of their products. I picked out this camel t-shirt and used this shirt for one of the looks I put together, which I layered over the top. Add some light blue jeans or shorts to it to complete the outfit or you could wear it buttoned up without the t-shirt and put it with stone chinos and some brown loafers for a slightly smarter look for a summer party.
'Miles' shirt in pastel aerial print - Albam - £119 down to £71
Are you unsure what looks good on you and therefore always stay in the safety zone of tried and tested things, but would like to try something new? Book in for a Personal Shopping trip and I'll lead you gently out of your comfort zone introducing you to new looks that you might not have thought about before but love!
And if you're not sure, here's what a client said about his experience of working with me:
"I have used Sarah for 2 different shopping trips with differing requirements, and have referred her to various friends as well. She is always attentive and gets a good sense of my needs and my budget.
Her particular genius is in reviewing the clothes you already have and finding a few key new pieces that can revitalize your wardrobe - she has always made suggestions that I find surprising, but in the end she has always been right.
She puts in FAR more hours than you might think, combing through websites and stores long before she meets you and putting together detailed reports and suggestions after the meeting.
Her rates are really a bargain given the combination of discounts she gets, the amount of time she puts in actually shopping, and the amount of money she saves by re-introducing your existing clothes. I'm grateful to have found her."
