Stars'n'stripes
Happy Fourth of July!
In celebration of Independence Day I've searched out some stars and stripes for you - I reckon they'd look pretty good all year round though, don't you?
I love the way this General Idea cardigan is put together asymmetrically with different coloured arms, and the navy placket detail down the front, balancing out those the horizontal lines. I like the way the Oki-Ni crew have styled it here, but you could also put it over a simple white shirt and navy cotton trousers for a smarter feel. Add this brilliant blue wallet from Comme des Garcons, with it's tiny diamond pattern to complement the geometric lines.
Stars and spots - Mr Paul Smith you are spoiling us! All done in the best possible taste of course, and get your stripe fix with clever detailing on this Comme des Garcons shirt. Especially great if you have long arms, breaking the length up with the double cuff.
Okay, let's get casual - with a great classic Breton shirt from Scotch & Soda. All you need is dark denims and a pair of these divine Derbies, from Mr Hare to complete your look.
Spot the stars on the Paul Smith shirt.....can you see them yet? Okay - I'll give you a clue - the outlined box around the shoulder hosts some very tiny stars, sitting perfectly with the fine stripes on the main body of the shirt. Add to the subtle textures with a knit tie - Nick Bronson does some of the best.
And last but not least, we couldn't miss out the ubiquitous Converse All Stars. Worn worldwide they just seem to go with everything - a bit like the Martini advert - anytime, any place, anywhere.....well, almost. Anyway, here's my suggestion of what to wear them with - a gorgeous lightweight striped cotton Acne jacket. Pop it over a pair of stone coloured chinos, a white t, add the shot of colour with your red Converse and you'll be ready to celebrate!
Happy Independence Day!
