Summer shoe ideas for 2022
If there's one thing I can guarantee I'll get asked about at this time of year, it's summer shoes. Whether it's to go with a linen suit for a wedding, to wear everyday with lighter coloured chinos and a casual blazer or to wear with shorts on holiday.......this is what I've been shopping for recently with clients.
So I thought I'd share with you what I'd found and where, so you don't have to do the legwork and your feet will be perfectly shod this summer.
This was a pair my client bought in brown on our shopping trip earlier this week.......they're a great summer replacement for the crepe sole boots he'd been wearing all winter. He doesn't need to dress up for work so can wear them casually with jeans (try the lightweight ones from Alexandra Wood or Seven For All Mankind) or with chinos and an unstructured blazer for smarter occasions. I think he's going to get a lot of wear from his, and the navy ones work really well with beige / off white chinos or pale / mid wash jeans.
'Algonquin' crepe sole trappeur Derby in navy suede - Russell & Bromley - £225
Another client is trying these out to go with a summer suit he's wearing for a wedding abroad. It's a textured camel coloured suit in a silk, cotton and wool mix and when you see the shoes in person, they're a bit more olive than they look here, so I think they're going to go beautifully. The thinner sole makes them very elegant to go with this look but they're casual enough to go with a pair of tailored linen trousers or shorts and a knitted polo shirt for the rest of the summer.
Olive suede 'Salomon' loafers - Officine Générale - £285
I discovered these during a recent trip to one of my favourite stores - Trunk Clothiers in Chiltern Street (cool stuff and super helpful staff!) I love this retro style which is based on German military trainers, and they have a removable footbed which is handy if you need to put orthotics in. They look super comfy - the guy who works in the shop told me he has 4 pairs so they must be! The slim sole makes them perfect to wear with shorts or lightweight trousers and is a great alternative if you're bored with wearing Converse.
Off white German military trainers - Reproduction of Found at Trunk Clothiers - £180
If you're looking for a pair of summer shoes for work, which aren't too formal, then take a look at these. I always think of suede as more summery, and the white sole looks very modern.........plus they go up to a UK size 15, so no need to miss out if you have larger feet. Put them with navy chinos, a white shirt and a mid blue jersey cotton and linen jacket like this one for a great summer work outfit. They're on sale too, so hurry up if you like them!
Brown suede derby shoes with white sole - Martel + Ram - £147
Are you going on holiday, and only have trainers and flip-flops and would like an alternative? These are an elevated version of regular espadrilles, so they'll upgrade your style whether you're at the beach or the bar. I tried them with a client and found out that they come up fairly narrow, so if your feet are long and thin they'll be great, but you might need to look elsewhere if you have a wide fit. They're in other colours too, and linen as well as suede.
'Dani' navy suede espadrilles with leather sole - La Portegna - £170
