Summer shoes
Many men aren't comfortable with wearing sandals and are faced with a dilemma about what to wear on their feet in the summer months that will be light and cool, plus comfortable enough to wear without socks.
So what are the options? Here are my top five choices for keeping your feet fresh and fashionable this summer:
A breathable rubberised version of the deck shoe, these Swims from Kurt Geiger are a brilliantly stylish solution for messing around by the sea, or for the townies....the lido. Wear with these printed tailored "Norway" shorts from Reiss to stay cool and chic this summer.
Having produced espadrilles since 1927 the Spanish Castaner family have had a lot of practice at perfecting them! Demonstrated here with these "Pablo" perforated leather espadrilles at Mr Porter, they offer a very slightly more formal look than their canvas counterparts and team well with these understated grey cotton trousers from Hartford at Mr Porter.
What to wear when it's high summer but you still want to stay a little more formal? One of my favourite brands of the moment is Gant Rugger and having tried these summer twill "smarty pants" with a couple of clients, I think they've nailed it. Paired with these lightweight denim slip on shoes from Oliver Sweeney, smart summer style is perfectly captured.
Indigo madras check shorts by Paul Smith provide a colourful but laid back approach to summer in the city. A slightly different take on the classic espadrilles are provided with this "Tito" lace up style by Castaner at Farfetch to give a stylish edge to your weekend look.
When the sun comes out suddenly you feel more adventurous with colour and these "Blackbird" slim fit jeans by Reiss are the perfect way to express yourself. Temper them with neutrals like these lovely conker brown "Dagama" leather boat shoes by the ever popular Paul Smith and you'll be ready for when the heatwave hits.
I hope you've found some fresh inspiration for your feet here this summer!
