Summer sweaters
Summer sweaters - it's a bit of an oxymoron isn't it? But not when you live in the UK and someone forgot to give the weather the memo reminding it which month we're in, and how it generally starts getting warmer now.
Anyhoooo.......we may as well make the most of it and it gives you a chance to wear all these lovely sweaters I've picked out doesn't it? Unusually for me, as I'm always trying to coerce you into a bit of colour (I thought I'd give you a rest after my last post) this time I've gone for the easy options of blues and greys that will integrate seamlessly into your wardrobe.
Let me know what you think and if you buy any of them, I'd love to know and/or see pictures of you wearing it :)
I discovered Colourful Standard in Harvey Nichols with a female client (yes, occasionally I work with women!) and when I looked online realised they had menswear too. There's an amazing array of colours and they're a really reasonable price. I went with the polar blue for a classic choice. It looks really fresh with navy chinos, jeans, sand cotton trousers, or even shorts when you've been out for the day and the evening starts getting chilly. Looks summery but keeps you warm - exactly what you need in a jumper for a summer in the UK!
Light merino wool crew neck jumper in 'polar blue' - Colourful Standard - £85
If you're looking for something just a tiny bit different to what you'd normally wear, then check this out. This retro style neckline, which is reminiscent of knitwear in the 40s / 50s, has made a comeback this summer. Wear it with a white crew neck t-shirt or maybe a subtle striped one underneath or even a shirt (click here to see it styled with a shirt). Judging by the reviews, pretty much everyone who's bought one so far has raved about it. I'll deffo be bearing it in mind to show some of my upcoming personal shopping clients.
'Hedley' resort collar merino wool jumper in 'mineral' - Orlebar Brown - £345
Do you prefer an altogether more casual look? Then YMC have come to your aid with this crochet striped sweater. If you're one of those people who likes lots of texture and suits more of a handknitted style, rather than a smoother finish, this would be a great classic for summer. Wear it with off-white jeans, denim trousers or dusty pink shorts. It's cut to be oversized so if you want it a little more fitted, then go for a size smaller than you'd normally wear.
'Dawg' oversized cotton cashmere crew neck striped jumper - YMC - £165
I know I've included this before in my blog posts but if you've got attached to wearing a hoodie during lockdown and want an elevated version - this is ideal. The knitted version is just so much "posher" than a sweatshirt style.....put it under a leather jacket whilst supping a pint at the pub, or having dinner al fresco, wear it under a blazer with chinos and Common Projects for a casual business meeting, or take it on your Cornwall "staycation" as an extra layer when the sun goes down.
Zipped cardigan with hood in navy - Sandro - £269
You may think this looks like a plain grey sweater but look closely and you'll see that it has a lovely honeycomb texture to it, and then if you look again, you'll see the sleeves are contrasting in a smooth knit. It's subtle details like this which sort the well dressed man from the average one.....so if you want to be that guy, I'd suggest you get this 'smarter than a sweatshirt' style in your wardrobe pronto!
And this is what a customer said after he bought one of their sweaters following a previous recommendation I made:
"The sweater has arrived (incredibly quick delivery from the UK) and is absolutely beautiful. Great colour and the feel is is amazing. Terrific recommendation."
Cashmere honeycomb knit raglan sleeve sweater - Hand & Jones - £330

Still need convincing about shopping with someone like me? Here's what one of my clients from a shopping trip last week said:
"This was my first time working with a personal stylist, and I approached Sarah with some nervousness. She took great care to understand my style--or rather lack of style--and what I was looking for. Her suggestions, such as a new hair cut and new glasses, were thoughtful, senstive, and current.
I found shopping with Sarah really fun: she had done very thorough research in advance, and we went to shops and tried on clothes that I simply would never have considered on my own. I particularly valued her specialist knowledge, such as bringing me to a tailor who was able to refine the off-the-peg suit I had bought until it was exactly right for me.
Working with Sarah has been a real boost to my self-confidence. I strongly recommend Sartoria Lab to any guy looking for a new style and unsure of where to begin."
