Tobacco coloured linen for summer

As fashion turns towards the 70s for inspiration, there's been a lot more 'brown in town' and particularly this rich tobacco shade. It works perfectly when crossed with a "Talented Mr Ripley" style of higher waist trousers, cool linens and knitted polo shirts.

It also complements the pale blue and white that fills most men's summer wardrobes, making a welcome contrast without being too 'out there'.  And of course, it looks excellent worn with other earthy tones of khaki, beige and cream, which will look particularly good on you if your colouring is a little softer (ie: you don't have much contrast between your hair, eye and skin colour.

Oscar Jacobson Feng blazer - styling advice for men

I've been admiring the brand Oscar Jacobson for a little while but it's only been stocked in small quantities in Fenwicks and Selfridges up till now, so I've just managed to get one piece with a client so far. This must change! I'm sure this wool & linen mix blazer will be perfect for someone soon.....they've made it look quite smart here, but I'd also like to see it with soft beige chinos and a knitted top (like this one) and perhaps even a lightweight summer scarf.

Monitaly camp collar linen shirt - personal shopper for men

Okay, so the pyjama look trousers Mr Porter have styled it with above are not for everyone, but it would look just as good (if not better?!) if you added it to a simple look of a white t-shirt, some washed in jeans and white Converse or Common Projects trainers to give it a bit of Riviera chic.

Incotex at Slowear tapered tobacco trousers - personal styling for men

A client tried on some similar trousers from Incotex to these recently and they were a great fit. What I like about them is the fact that they like to do things a bit differently, and for an example of this click through to the website to see the upside down pocket flaps on the back of these trousers. It's the subtle details like this that set them apart. Again you could make these a little more casual than they've styled them by putting them with an ice blue linen shirt and some suede sneakers.

Massimo Dutti knitted polo shirt - personal shopper for men

As mentioned above, "The Talented Mr Ripley" is a pretty good film to base your summer wardrobe on and this knitted polo shirt wouldn't have looked out of place in it. Wear with chino shorts for a smarter look for a summer BBQ, or with linen trousers for a holiday evening out. Accessorise with tortoiseshell sunglasses and a panama hat to complete your Jude Law look.

Inis Meain linen blend sweater - personal stylist for men

Summer in the UK often calls for a lightweight sweater and this linen and cotton one fits the bill nicely to throw on for chilly evenings. The colour is lovely with navy, warms up greys and is a natural mix with beige tones. It's the sort of thing that once you have in your wardrobe, you'll wonder how you ever did without it.
