5 Looks with a pair of tartan trousers
Last month I worked on a shoot with Grey Fox blog and Scotland Shop, styling 5 different looks with a pair of tartan trousers that David had had made by Scotland Shop.
They're not the normal sort of thing I'd choose with clients but I ended up rather liking them and was surprised at how versatile they turned out to be. See the results here:
Here we kept the look relatively simple with a blue roll neck sweater and navy jacket. The blazer actually has a faint black check in it too which worked rather well with the bolder check of the trousers. A good smart / casual look for those in between occasion when you don't want to look too formal but want to look like you've made the effort.
We wanted to give the trousers a more casual look too, to show how you might wear them for everyday. Another roll neck - this time cream and chunky and a tweed jacket with some lovely black pebbled leather Derby shoes. This neutral colours tone down the trousers for a different look.
Perhaps a more typical way of wearing tartan trousers is for a special occasion. I think this would be a fun look to wear around Christmas time and velvet jackets are the height of fashion right now. The bow tie tones with the blues in the trousers and I love the way the pocket square looks like a little burst of flames is coming out of Grey Fox's pocket!
Another casual look, this time introducing a contrasting colour. I loved these tones together reminding me of the Yorkshire moors covered in heather. We wanted to keep the look modern so used a denim shirt under the sweater and chunky textured brogues.
A more classic look this time, with contrasting stripes and a classic blazer. I was secretly rather pleased with myself for getting these 3 patterns to work so well together! I think it works because we kept it quite tonal in shades of blue and the tie has quite a widely spaced pattern so it doesn't fight with the tartan or stripes. The chambray pocket square gives a contemporary touch.
You can see this shoot also on Grey Fox blog with credits for all the clothing and his take on how he found the process of getting the trousers made.
