5 x trenches & macs to see you through to Spring

You may not get it in time for this weekend, when storms are forecast but I'm sure a trench will come in handy to see you through the end of the winter and into Spring.

If you don't have one in your wardrobe or are due for an update, here's some that I've seen whilst out and about scouting for personal shopping clients.

Arcteryx mac - personal styling shopping for men

I wouldn't normally look in Arc'teryx for this type of thing but I spied this in a client's wardrobe when I did a wardrobe edit for him and was really impressed. I love the simplicity and clean lines and as it's Goretex, it's waterproof, windproof and breathable. Plus if you'd like to wear it to cycle to work it has a 2 way zip, reflective strip under the collar and zippered pockets.

Keppel trench coat - Arc'teryx - £400

Reiss grey mac - personal styling advice for men

When I was prepping for a client the other day, I saw this grey mac which I bookmarked in my brain for future clients. I haven't yet bought it with anyone but I'm sure I will be. Very lightweight and a short length (which a lot of my clients prefer) and with the extra quilted insert which you can zip in for a bit of extra warmth, I think it would be an extremely useful piece.

Caster grey mac with removable zip neck insert - Reiss - £295

Private White VC Ventile motor trench - personal style advice for men

If you're looking for something different, look no longer. Not a regular trench or a short mac, this is a collaboration between menswear afficionado Simon Crompton and Private White VC. Made from 100% waterproof cotton - Ventile - in their Manchester factory, there are a limited amount of these coats made. You can read about all the details and thoughts behind the beautiful design here.

Paul Smith mac with detachable liner - personal styling tips for men

I sometimes wish that all clothes were multi functional - I always love it when I find something that looks extremely stylish but can be worn in different ways or has a zip out lining like this does. Once again, Paul Smith nails it with this simple practical design which knowing the UK's damp summers (unless we have another freak heatwave) can most likely be worn all year round!

Navy Loro Piana Storm system wool mac with detachable liner - Paul Smith - £1,000

Boss packable car coat - personal shopping advice for men

As I was looking for a lightweight Spring jacket for a client the other day, the shop assistant showed me this one. It's very light and packs away into a pocket, so is excellent for travelling and business trips. Also a mac is ideal over jeans or a suit so can morph into smart or casual, which is always a winner in my books.

Packable car coat in water replellent fabric - Boss - £369

"Sarah was very helpful in upgrading my wardrobe.....the whole experience was very valuable and enjoyable at the same time.
I would recommend her if you are thinking of giving a boost to your personal style."
