Men's smart / casual summer shoes for 2023
As summer is suddenly upon us, I've been tasked with finding clients some casual summer shoe options, that they can wear here, and for going on holiday. Mostly they prefer a closed in shoe, over sandals but want a change from trainers.......though I snuck a pair in here as sometimes you just can't beat them!
Here's what I've been recommending and clients have been buying on our personal shopping trips:
There's lots of this casual loafer style around, and in fact I bought some similar ones with a client this week. The colour of these is slightly unusual though, and I've recommended them to another client, so I thought I'd include them here.
Perfect to wear with cotton trousers and a linen shirt for a smarter look, or with shorts and a knitted polo shirt for a more casual but elegant look.
As you'll notice from the next couple of recommendations this is my new favourite brand! I've been taking quite a few of my personal shopping clients to their London shop in Chiltern Street, Marylebone.
'Ferèe' red suede loafers - Velasca - £265
Sometimes, people just can't get on with slip-on shoes and prefer something with laces......if that's you too, then you may like this lace up version of an espadrille. And if you have large feet in proportion to the rest of you, then lace-ups have the added bonus of making your feet look smaller as the front of the shoe is broken up with detailing.
These would look great with chino shorts, or casual linen trousers and a short sleeved Cuban collar shirt.
'Masee' dark brown espadrilles with laces - Velasca - £170
Yep, perhaps not the most original suggestion but sometimes you just can't go wrong with a great pair of trainers. I had one client recently, and much as we tried other styles, we reverted back to them - especially as we'd just bought some lovely cargo pants and we both felt trainers were the best option.
I love this style with the gum sole and the coloured heel, and they'll pretty much go with everything. So if you're in the market for a 'no-brainer-trainer' then voilà - I've found them for you!
'Ciciarun' white with gum sole leather tennis shoes - Velasca - £240
I liked these as they're slightly different from your regular deck shoes with the mixture of suede and leather, plus the dark green makes a change too. You could wear them casually with shorts and light coloured chinos, or put them with a pair of seersucker trousers like these for dressier occasions.
Green 'Midway' suede and leather deck shoes - Russell & Bromley - £245
In between espadrilles and slip-on trainers, this pair would be really versatile. You could wear them to the beach with shorts and a polo shirt, or with a lightweight summer suit and a t-shirt for a lunch in town. And if navy isn't really you, they also come in khaki and a cocoa brown.
Navy suede calfskin espadrilles - Slowear - £405

Here's a recent lovely Google review a client left me, after we'd been shopping:
"I did a day's personal shopping with Sarah and was very pleased with the results. I came away with some things that I knew in advance I would get, some things that are very "me" but I wouldn't have found on my own and some things that I wouldn't have chosen for myself, but I'm nevertheless very pleased with. I've worn the outfits we chose on several occasions since and always feel confident with them.
Sarah has a good eye for what works and her enthusiasm really helped keep the momentum up. She's also very good company, which helps when you're spending the day working together.
Her advance scouting really helped save time on the day, it was worth it just for that, we started the day with a plan and a list of places to go so no time was wasted, as I don't get to London very often that was invaluable.
I would definitely use her services again."
