Summer sale picks - linen menswear pieces
I've been having a "linen-fest" with my clients on summer personal shopping trips for men! We've bought linen trousers, shirts, suits, t-shirts etc, so I thought I'd do a round up on here of some lovely linen pieces I found on sale at Mr Porter.
You might love or hate the crumpled effect of it, but there's no denying it's cool and comfortable to wear in summer. If you hate the creased look, then opt for a blended fabric instead which will help to disperse the wrinkling, but if you love it....then snap these pieces up whilst you can!
Not keen on short sleeves for summer and prefer a long sleeved shirt where you can roll up the sleeves? Then opt for a collarless shirt to make it even more casual. This one's a very fine pinstripe from a brand I love and have often bought in Fenwicks, Bond Street with clients.
This would look great under a cotton or linen suit or with jeans. And by the way, if you'd like some lightweight jeans for summer, then check out these Seven For All Mankind ones out that I bought with my client last Monday....they're much lighter than your regular denim and looked brilliant on him :)
Grandad collar pinstriped linen shirt - Hartford at Mr Porter - £80.50
A linen t-shirt has a lovely texture to it and is light, loose and airy. Summer's the perfect time to add a little more colour into your wardrobe too......you might have a bit more of a tan than normal and can carry off more colours.
This peachy pink is perfect with navy, grey, black and beige - basically all your neutrals - or for a braver choice, try it with tan or khaki. In fact, the khaki jacket below would look great - just add some lightweight stone chinos and suede espadrilles, and you're sorted for a summer's night out.
'Jordan' linen jersey t-shirt for men - Derek Rose at Mr Porter - £47.50
If you're looking for a slightly smarter pair of shorts for summer, then look no further. These have a pressed in crease, so as well as the way they've styled them over on the Mr Porter website, they can be worn with a tailored white linen shirt tucked in, a woven belt and loafers.
If you just can't face wearing trousers when the temperature soars, but like to look smart then these would be a great purchase.
Straight leg linen Bermuda shorts for men - 120% Lino at Mr Porter - £80
I'm sure you've heard me say this before if you're a regular reader of this blog, but one thing I find missing in lots of guys wardrobes when I do a wardrobe edit, is a summer jacket. Perhaps you think you don't need one as it should be warm in summer, but if you live in the UK, you'll know that the temperature often drops quite a bit in the evenings, and we usually get more than our fair share of cooler days as well!
So believe me, I'm pretty sure you'll wear this to death once you have it in your sartorial arsenal. It's versatile too....eg. you could wear it for going out, or for a casual work look with a t-shirt, chinos and trainers. Or you could also get the matching trousers and wear it to a casual beach wedding, if you have one to attend this summer.
'Samuraki' linen blazer for men - Aspesi at Mr Porter - £200
And finally - an alternative to jeans in the summer months. As you can see these look great with sandals, or some espadrilles (see this post) or a pair of Onitsuka Tiger trainers would also look good.
Drawstring trousers are usually best with something worn over the top, unless you have a super washboard stomach! So try a Cuban collar short sleeved shirt, the grandad shirt at the top of this selection, or the peachy pink linen t-shirt....and that's your summer wardrobe, sorted!
'Sydney' straight leg linen drawstring trousers for men - Derek Rose at Mr Porter - £120
And if you've been considering working with a personal stylist for men, but are not sure, then read what this customer had to say about his experience of shopping with me:
"This was my first time working with a personal stylist, and I approached Sarah with some nervousness. She took great care to understand my style, or rather lack of style, and what I was looking for.
Her suggestions, such as a new hair cut and new glasses, were thoughtful, senstive, and current.
I found shopping with Sarah really fun: she had done very thorough research in advance, and we went to shops and tried on clothes that I simply would never have considered on my own.
I particularly valued her specialist knowledge, such as bringing me to a tailor who was able to refine the off-the-peg suit I had bought until it was exactly right for me.
Working with Sarah has been a real boost to my self-confidence. I strongly recommend Sartoria Lab to any guy looking for a new style and unsure of where to begin."
