Update your shorts wardrobe for summer
Have you been giving short shrift to your shorts this summer?! Time to sort that out and here's how. Scroll through my recommendations below, click, buy, wear and wait for the compliments to roll in! Simples!
In all seriousness though, it's not always easy finding the perfect style so I've added in some tips on styles and how to wear them below. Do send me any questions if you have them though and I'll be happy to answer.
I knew my client would love these shorts, the minute I took them to him in the fitting room in Liberty.....and they were a no-brainer for him. Comfy, casual, and cord......a slightly alternative fabric for summer. He'd bought some trousers in a similar style from Folk last season which were a great success, and they went perfectly with all the casual summer shirts we'd got, so were an instant hit!
Check cord 'Assembly' shorts - Folk at Liberty - £125
If you like your shorts to be shorter, and love a tailored look then head to Orlebar Brown. This is the shorter length, so if you're lacking in height or your legs are not lanky, it'll work really well for you.
And why not go for it in this dazzling shade of red for summer? Mix it with neutrals like navy, grey, white or khaki and keep the styles simple. But if it's still too brave a choice for you, then there's lots of other colours to choose from too.

Like something a bit different? Take a look at these Gurkha style shorts - they go perfectly with a casual linen shirt tucked in and some loafers, or a polo knit and suede espadrilles for an elegant summer look. Also, the pleat front are great to give you a bit more room in the thighs if yours are chunky.
Army green pleated 'Manny' shorts - Rubinacci at Mr Porter - £235
If you're just going to take one pair of shorts on holiday with you, then these are a brilliant all-rounder. The melange fabric is similar to denim, so you can easily dress them up or down......wear them with a t-shirt, Converse and a cap for daytime sightseeing trips, and a fun patterned shirt and Birkenstocks for sundowners on the beach.
'Felipe' linen and cotton melange shorts - Frescobol Carioca - £175
I bought this style with a client on a shopping trip, and recommended it to another as part of the info I sent after his wardrobe edit. They both had very slim legs, and lots of shorts flapped around like a sail in the wind on them, so they were pleased to find these came in a very slim cut! Voilà - problem sorted.
'McQueen' chino shorts - Pepe Jeans - £55
"I have had a couple of sessions with Sarah and she is awesome. She is very knowledgeable, adaptable and encourages you to think outside the box and try new things - but also won't press something on you that you know you won't ever wear. I would recommend her unreservedly to anyone looking to add some sartorial elegance and taste to home, office or holiday wardrobe."
